Current Topic:
Various types of data compose a personal GIS project and an Enterprise GeoDatabase. In some cases, the data types are similar and in some cases they differ significantly.
Some questions that will be covered:
Who pays attention to data standards?
What standards are currently in widest use?
What is the range of formal criteria/standards that exist?
What is the basis for selection for different types of data?
What basic standards apply to data that are already commercially available versus data that are collected de novo with electronic equipment (PDA/GPS devices)?
Where does local survey/geodetic control fit in?
Where does the issue of Metadata fit in?

Directions:
THE NAPA CITY COUNCIL CHAMBERS Meeting Room:
From Hwy. 29 take the First Street exit
and go EAST to the intersection (stoplight) at First Street and
California Blvd. Turn SOUTH on California Blvd. and make an
IMMEDIATE left (EAST) on to Second Street (one-way). Please Note:
Second Street will take a slight jog to the NORTHEAST at Church
Street....STAY ON SECOND STREET! Immediately following the jog at
Church street make the next left (NORTHWEST) on School Street.
The entrance to CITY HALL is midblock on the left hand side of School
Street.
From Soscol Avenue turn West on Third Street and follow Third Street over the Bridge (Napa River) past the Courthouse (on your left) to School Street. Turn right (NORTHWEST) on School Street and proceed 1.5 Blocks. The entrance to CITY HALL is on the left hand side of School Street.
Surveyors are encouraged to attend. There will be another similar presentation in March 2005 from the Surveyor's perspective. Future topics on data standards after March 2005 will be covered as a joint presentation to include both perspectives.
